It's been 20 years since ‘The Big Freeze’ of 1996 here in the South.  Burst pipes, power outages, feeding out in permafrost, dented vehicles, dying off of hedges and trees, measuring who’s got the biggest icicles...

It snowed in the last weekend of June, and the South woke up to a white Monday on 1 July.  Then it froze to around -11 for a few days before taking a fortnight to warm up to 0.  It was the school holidays, so that saved schools closing.

Luke caught up with then Gore plumber Bill Sheddan to talk his experience battling the elements to get the work done...
