Hokonui is once again proud to back the iconic Wheels Week+

Expect anything and everything with wheels showcased until Sunday, May 18. Events celebrating classic cars, scooters, motorcycles, speedway and go kart racing fill up four weekends of action. A new event this year is the two-day tractor pull on May 10 and 11. Make the most of it! For the full events programme go to www.wheelsweek.co.nz

Saturday 3rd May

  • Ashburton Speedway Assn Day 1: Street Stocks, Adult Ministocks, C Grade, CTRA - NZ Production Title, Quarter Midgets, Wingless Sprints, Ashburton NZ Youth Saloon Title. At Seafield Road, next to the Airport. From 12.00 pm. $15.00 adult, $25.00 for a two-day pass, Gold Card holders $10.00/day, $15.00 two-day pass, under 14 free (must be accompanied by an adult).
  • Ashburton Vintage Car Club Swap Meet: 86 Maronan Road, Tinwald. 7.30 am – 2.30 pm. A collection of stalls including all things motoring andawide range of bric–a–brac. $5.00 per person entry (Children U15 free with paying adult); Sites $25.00. (Includes 1-person entry).
  • Americar Rod & Custom Club Inc Display Day- Americar Club rooms Maronan Rd, 11am - 4pm. Displays of beautiful vehicles and events throughout the day. Entry, Gold coin.
  • Originals Motorcycle Show ‘n’ Shine: RSA Cox Street Ashburton, 11.00 am – 4.00 pm. Open to all makes and models to be on site from 9.00am. Entry $10.00 per bike, prizes for top 10 bikes. Gold coin entry.
  • The Plains Vintage Railway & Historical Museum is open with static displays of “Working Wheels”. Steam Train Rides operating (Fare Prices: Unlimited Rides apply on the day: Adults $15, Child $10, Family $40, preschoolers free). Working Rural History Displays of Vintage Machinery and more - Open from 11am - 4pm, 20 Maronan Road, Tinwald.

Sunday 4th May

  • Ashburton Car Club SprayMarksMotorkhana: $50.00 per person entry fee to compete; enter on the day. Cars must be roadworthy to warrant of fitness standard. Location, SprayMarks yard Dobson Street Ashburton.
  • Ashburton Speedway Assn Day 2 of racing: Wingless Sprint, CTRA – NZ Production Title, C Grade, Stockcars, Production Saloons, Youth Ministocks, Ashburton NZ Youth Saloon Title. Classes subject to change. Seafield Road, next to the Ashburton Airport. From 12.00 pm. $15.00 adult, Gold Card holders $10.00, under 14 free (must be accompanied by an adult).
  • Ashburton Motorcycle Club TT: Wheels Week TT, Location TBC. Competitors to pay entry fee, spectators free. More details on Facebook page and My Rides.
  • Ashburton Aviation Museum: This wonderful collection will be open for viewing from 1.00pm until 3.00pm Seafield Road Ashburton. Entry $10 adult, children free

Wednesday 7th May 

  • Ashburton Car Club Suzie Morrison & Grant Gordon Memorial Night Trial: Meet at the MSA Bar. Entries on the night. Will need licensed driver, navigator, pens, torch or spotlight, clipboards, and road legal vehicle. Documentation starting 6.30pm, start 7.00 pm $50.00 per car.

Saturday 10th May

  • Ashburton Wheels Week Tractor Pull: Two days of Horsepower Hero’s sorting the operators from the seat warmers. Open to all vehicles (not just tractors), Old, New, Big & Small, Modified & Super Modified. 9.00am start, food and coffee trucks available. Randal Hanrahan’s Farm, SH1, next to Hakatere Marae. Entry fee for competitors, $100 per tractor per day, Entry $10 per person, under 12’s free. Weather dependent. No registration required. Proceeds raised from the event will go towards supporting mental health in the trucking, farming and rural communities. Event updates at Canterbury Tractor Pull Club Facebook page. 

Sunday 11th May

  • Property Brokers Scooter Race: Awesome fun for the whole family, BYO Scooter (non-motorised) and helmet, Registration at Property Brokers office or on the day. Best dressed scooter and costume, Age group categories for racing and prizes. Free sausage sizzle. Ashburton Domain Bike Track, Main entrance, corner Walnut Ave & West Street, 10.00am – 12.30pm Wet or fine.

  • Ashburton Aviation Museum: This wonderful collection of aircraft and memorabilia will be open for viewing from 1.00pm until 3.00pm Seafield Road Ashburton, Entry $10 adult, children free.
  • Retro & Classic Boats on Lake Hood: Retro & classic boats will be on display both on and off the water from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Classics & Coffee at Lake Hood: In conjunction with the Retro & Classic Boats, bring along your Motorcycles, Classic Cars, New cars, Old Cars, Hot Rods, Trucks. Just arrive, park up and enjoy the variety of vehicles. Free admission to everyone, 12.30pm – 3.30pm.“The Shot” Coffee Cart will be on site.

Saturday 17th May

  • Ashburton Car Club: Blands RoadStanding¼Mile Sprint, Entry fee $80.00/vehicle, daymembership $20.00.

Sunday 18th May

  • Ashburton FamilyGo Kart Club: A great day of paddock racing, Location to be confirmed. Weather dependant. Gates open 9.00am, scrutineering 9.30- 10.00am. Racing starts 10.30am until 3.00pm. BBQ lunch. Entry fee for competitors. More details on Facebook, Ashburton Family Go Kart Club.
