GDC  Wheels Week Plus is the popular Mid Canterbury wheels themed event that has been rolling out family fun for all ages since 1990. The humble wheels week has grown into a 3 week festival of cars, bikes, boats, planes, cycling and more! Find all the details here. Proudly supported by Greg Donaldson Contracting and Hokonui. 

Saturday 27th April

  • Day 1 Ashburton Street Sprint 2024 – Fuelled by KFC: Riverside Industrial Estate 8.30 am. Watch one car at a time as they race against the clock, down to a two-car run off on Sunday.   • Carbs & Coffee, Dirty Bangers Car Club. Breakfast gathering, meet at Joes Garage, 5 Cass Street from 9.00am – 11.00am with your pride and joy. This will be followed by a cruise (weather dependent). Contact: Tracey 027 773 9763

Sunday 28th April

  • Starship Classic Car Run: Ashburton Plains Rotary Club, a fundraising event for Starship. Registration 9.00am – 10.15am at the Ashburton Show Grounds. Depart from Ashburton 10.30am. Note that everybody is welcome to participate with any car. Finish at the Grigg family property Surry Hills.  $20 per vehicle.   • Day 2 Ashburton Street Sprint 2024 – Fuelled by KFC: Second day of racing against the clock, be there for the top 32, reducing to find the top two qualifying times to find the finalists.   • Ashburton Speedway Assn (2 days of racing) Day 1. Street Stocks, Adult Ministocks, C Grade, CTRA - NZ Production Title, Quarter Midgets, Wingless Sprints, Ashburton NZ Youth Saloon Title. Seafield Road adjacent to the Airport. From 12.00 pm. $15.00 adult, $25.00 for a two-day pass, Gold Card holders $10.00/day, $15.00 two day pass, under 14 free (must be accompanied by an adult).   • Ashburton Vintage Car Club Swap Meet: 86 Maronan Road, Tinwald. 7.30 am – 2.30 pm.   • Suzie Morrison & Grant Gordon Memorial Night Trial: Meet at the Car Club Rooms, 47 Wakelins Road Ashburton. Entries on the night. Will need licensed driver, navigator, pens, torch or spotlight, clipboards, and road legal vehicle. Documentation starting 6.30pm, start 7.00 pm $50.00 per car.   • Patersons Funeral Services Wheelchair Basketball: Ashburton Basketball Stadium, Oxford Street at 2.00 pm. Come and see the Canterbury Wheelies wheelchair basketball team take on a local celebrity team (featuring our own Hokonui Breakfast Host Luke Howden). Gold coin donation.

  • Ashburton Family Go Kart Club: A great day of paddock racing, Location to be confirmed. Weather dependant. Gates open 9.00am, scrutineering 9.30- 10.00am. Racing starts 10.30am until 3.00pm.
